Aurecon supports Earth Hour 2010

As part of Aurecon’s commitment to sustainability, we will be joining millions across the world in support of Earth Hour by switching off all lighting and equipment for an hour on Saturday 27 March as part of a global stance against climate change.

Earth Hour is an initiative of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness of the need to take action on climate change. Aurecon Asia Pacific has been a supporter of the Earth Hour movement since its inception in Sydney in 2007.

In the lead up to Earth Hour, Aurecon will be deploying its Sustainability Committees across Asia Pacific to ensure all non-essential lighting and equipment is switched off.

“Aurecon is proud to be a long standing supporter of Earth Hour. This is just one of the many practical steps we’re taking to incorporate sustainability practices into everyday work life,” said Bruce Penman, Sustainability Leader – Asia Pacific.

As part of Aurecon’s commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, a greenhouse gas inventory was launched to understand the organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions. The audit is now in Stage 2 development and forms part of a wider strategy to develop a carbon management plan for all offices.

Another example of the organisation putting practical sustainability to work was the handing out of “eco-mugs” to all staff at the recent Aurecon’s first birthday celebrations. The mug is an Asia-Pacific sustainability initiative in an effort to reduce usage of disposable take-away cups in our offices.
